Eclectic Science and Regulatory Compliance: Stories for the Curious v
Foreword
For more than a decade, Max Sherman has contributed articles to Regulatory Focus on
a variety of topics. He has written about famed doctors, scientists and writers. Other
articles examined the human senses, and little-known facts about many species, includ-
ing their contributions to scientific research and pharmaceutical and medical device
development. All have had one thing in common. These articles have revealed surprising
information of which most of us are unaware.
RAPS produced a first collection of his articles, From Alzheimer’s to Zebrafish: Eclectic
Science and Regulatory Stories, in 2012. This volume contains 36 more articles, some
published here for the first time. The articles are short, well-written and packed with
interesting facts. Topics include: from the animal kingdom, pythons, ticks, octopuses
and giraffes the human senses of smell, vision and touch and such famed scientists as
John Snow, Joseph Lister and Lewis Thomas.
Sherman is retired from the medical device industry, has taught college courses on regu-
latory and medical devices and has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge on all levels.
In these articles, he shares what he has learned for the benefit of us all.
